On Sunday 2 June, an announcement regarding the June 2019 Core Update appeared on Twitter. According to Google, the update will be rolled out on 3 June. We’ll tell you more about it.
This is the first time Google itself has announced a core algorithm update. There have been updates in the past, but these were not communicated by Google in advance. Why is this happening now? Google wants to be more proactive when updates and changes take place.

It is unclear what impact the update will have on the search results for the pages on your website. Some pages may not be affected by the update at all, whilst others may see their position in the search results change. This can have either a positive or a negative effect. If a page does drop in ranking, unfortunately there is nothing that can be done about it. In the long run, Google may rectify a lower ranking. So do keep an eye on how the update affects your pages.

A core update like this is certainly not the first of its kind. Google does update its algorithm every few months. The last known update was in March 2019. What is new about this update, therefore, is that Google is announcing it. This led people to believe it would be a massive update, but Danny Sullivan has refuted that:

Should we have any further information about the update, we’ll let you know here.
